Concept

A mobile party buff that caterwauls agonisingly through combat to "inspire comrades" to get the battle over with ASAP to make it stop! Make it stop! Ahh my ears; the goggles... they do nothing!

By using Mounted Combat, and choosing a Medium-sized player character or larger, Slinky can make a Ride check each round to ward off an incoming attack against that character.

Description:

When inactive, the Saucer of Flying looks like a regular Platinum coin, although a successful Appraise check (DC 11) reveals a perfectly regular slightly concave surface.

Upon spinning the coin, a saucer of force (as the Tenser's Floating Disc spell) appears within 5ft. It has the capabilities of a Light Horse (as summoned by the Mount spell) equipped with a Masterwork Exotic saddle (granting +2 circumstance bonus on Ride checks).

It hovers 3ft above any object or surface. Its diameter is 3ft and its area is 7ft. It can support up to 100lb. If not otherwise directed, it maintains a constant distance of 5 feet and follows you about. It can be directed to follow any other creature or object within 25ft. It can be directed to move in a direction you choose, maintaining its altitude with respect to the terrain below it.

The Saucer can attempt to clear obstacles in its path such as hurdling a hedge, leaping a narrow chasm or hopping up a riverbank. Use the description for the Jump skill, substituting in your ranks in Ride and your Ride check. It has the Run feat (as a Light Horse) and its vertical reach is 3ft (the height it hovers at). It is considered a suitable mount and can tilt to provide cover. Any fall that would deal one or more hitpoints of lethal damage deactivates the Saucer for as many minutes and applies that damage to the contents.

The Saucer instantly deforms if overloaded beyond 100lb or if the distance between you and it exceeds 25ft (regardless of what or who it may be following).

Background

Slinky slunk into the tavern, clambered up a barstool, snagged a dwarven stout and retired to a quiet corner to drown some sorrows. An adventuring group was discussing too loudly at a nearby table exploits that deserved a Silence spell and Permanency. One of them, obviously experiencing Feeblemind, noticed the stranger's disdain and bounded over uninvited.

"I'm doing some Gather Information!" the adventurer declared, "Have you heard any rumours?" he continued expectantly. Back at the adventurers' table, dice were being rolled. Slinky didn't want to talk to this buffoon, but a bristling arsenal of superfluous weaponry uncleaned after a dozen battles... and the fact that the dwarven brew was starting to have an effect... persuaded him to not disappoint the personal-space invader. In all sincerity, Slinky began:

A long time ago me and one other (Kyle) he, uh...
Well, we was hitchhiking down a long and lonesome road.
When all of a sudden there shined a shiny demon in the middle of the road.
And he said, "Play the best song in the world or I'll eat your soul!"

Well, me and Kyle we looked at each other and we each said, "Okay!"
	And we played the first thing that came to our heads;
It just so happened to be the best song in the world...
It was the best song in the world.

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see:
	  one and one make two;
	    two and one make three;
	      it was destiny.
Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
	  when the sun doth shine
	    and the moon doth glow
	      and the grass doth grow...
	And it saved our butts.

Because the demon want to kill us but he was forced to set us free
By the honour code that demons have to live by.
	Cause it's seitan-surprise and it's magic! And it's a mystical disguise.
The devil's song and it's tragic! You are the mystical eyed virgin and you're rocking!

Well needless to say, the beast was stunned.
A whip-crack with his swampy tail and the beast was done.
He asked us, "Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay - we are but men! Hark!"

This is not the greatest song in the world, no. This is just a tribute!
We couldn't remember the greatest song in the world. But this is a tribute!
And the peculiar thing is this my friend, the song we sang on that fateful night -
It didn't actually sound anything like this song. This is just a tribute!

	You've gotta believe it.
And I wish you were there.
It's just a matter of opinion.
So surprised to find you can't stop it.

Tenacious D: Tribute

As the reverie passed, Slinky looked around to see every tavern patron fixated on their table, fascinated. The adventurer was the first to move, dropping back into his chair with his companions summarising, "No rumours. Just some midget who can't remember whether it's devils or demons who're Lawful Evil."

Slinky didn't like the attention the story had generated, left a coin with the tankard, and slipped out into the night.

What had happened? Memory was so foggy. A childhood studying with the other rangers and druids flashed into the mind's eye. A travelling archaeologist named Kyle who'd come to the village looking for clues on an ancient, Second Edition druid grove and stone circle mentioned obliquely in prehistoric manuscripts. Slinky joined him out of curiosity - initially - and suspicion, increasingly.

Then the encounter dueling banjos with the Abyssinian Maurezhi. It's mortal ultimatum had been the Weapon Focus that obliterated any vestige of that supreme melody...

	Could I revive within me
	That symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,

All who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread ---

Kubla Khan

Somehow, Kyle's persistence must have been rewarded. There had been a showdown in twilight, as crepuscular rays scintillated through a trilithon long abandoned. The details remained sketchy. Kyle had ambitions to excavate the site and pen an epic that would cement his name in the annals of historians for all time. Slinky had different priorities.

There were scenes of a frenzied struggle Kyle had evidently anticipated. Therianthropic battle-cat grappling with mirror image illusions spilling scroll cases and feinting fans. The taste of blood and a gurgle. Searing pain. Fire. A surge of primal power, stones and trees dancing.

Finally, waking up in unfamiliar surroundings - as a tiny black cat. With no access to Nature's Commune, instead a penchant to wax lyrical into sesquipedalian loquaciousness...

Still with the ability to adopt humanoid form, but not the face that had appeared in puddles and still lakes for a decade or more - this was different. No longer full-length shadows in twilight - now only half-sized. Something slumbering in that grove had awoken, perhaps even had defeated Kyle, but the nuances of Reincarnate from earlier editions had never been Slinky's forte. Something had gone wrong in the process, merging some of Kyle's attributes into the mix. This new life was going to take a lot of getting used to.

[2016-05-30 02:51:34] btw, *do* you have interest in joining the group here? That hasn't really been discussed, and I can't, by myself, say it's good, but... you've watched a few games by now.
[2016-05-30 02:53:54] I'm interested, yeah, sure. But it seems you have a tight-knit group who all know each other well and coordinate well.
[2016-05-30 02:55:09] I am not feeling left out :-)
[2016-05-30 03:02:43] Ah OK fair enough. Well, I'd be happy to join and play if people would be interested. I've played druids, rogues, a bard, monks, a hexblade (melee sorcerer). It's all been fun.
[2016-05-30 03:03:11] *	mainstreet nods. I suspect capn might appreciate you taking the rogue slot if Anna goes with her original Wizard concept :P
[2016-05-30 05:01:53] Maybe I could try a Rogue 1; Bard 6; Rogue 1 multiclass Tibbit? That way I would be able to put full ranks into the Rogue skills needed, but during combat I can sing to inspire the team. And by sing, I mean cat wail.
[2016-05-30 13:41:51] No, we don't need *two* cats :P
[2016-05-30 17:31:54] I thought it might make a good way for Wolves to come in later if he was a catfriend of a cat already in the team :-)
[2016-05-30 17:32:25] Hmmm. Maybe. Talk to him about it.
[2016-05-30 17:33:01] Ah yeah - I don't want to steal his spotlight if he sees his cat-form as being his special thing.

[2016-06-05 01:30:54] Hi TrueWolves, I was talking with Mainstreet about the DnD game. I had an idea for a character, but he suggested I check with you first. I was thinking to make a Tibbit bard -- but don't want to steal your spotlight if being the only cat in the party is the special characteristic that sets your monk apart.
[2016-06-05 01:32:46] My feline monk was a silly gimick turned in to fun roleplay and combat senarios x3 I don't mind at all.
[2016-06-05 01:32:56] All the more strange if they meet.
[2016-06-05 01:34:37] Awesome - thanks! I was even thinking that perhaps a way of (re)introducing your cat to the group (if I join it from the start and you join in August) is if both cats met while exploring the world - as cats do - and then started hanging out :-)
[2016-06-05 01:35:06] Got a backstory for your cat yet?
[2016-06-05 01:35:33] No - not yet. Open to ideas.
[2016-06-05 01:52:49] But if the familiar line has been played before, I'll rethink my origins.
[2016-06-05 01:53:31] If you take a different spin, its not a bad idea. Common ground and all!
[2016-06-05 01:53:56] It wouldn't be over the top unless we got a 3rd awakened ex familier xD

[2016-06-07 07:38:21] I'm pretty happy with it. I'll roll up another one as a backup.

The person reincarnated will recall the majority of his or her former life and form, but the class they have, if any, in their new incarnation might be different indeed. Abilities and speech are likewise often changed. The table below gives the Reincarnation possibilities of this spell:

Any sort of player character can be reincarnated. If an elf gnome or human is indicated, the character must be created. When the corpse is touched, the new incarnation will appear in the area within 1 to 6 turns (cf. sixth level magic-user spell Reincarnation.)

Greater Grove Power: Reincarnate (Complete Druids Handbook 2nd Edition)

Greater Magical Groves

A greater magical sacred grove possesses exceptional enchantments. Each domain includes fewer than a score of such groves, most of which fall under the control of druids of 12th or higher level.

A greater grove has all the basic powers of the lesser grove, mentioned earlier. In addition, druids who sleep overnight in the grove before praying for spells receive an extra spell. Thus, a druid who chooses two 1st- and one 2nd-level spell receives another 1st- or 2nd-level spell of the DM's choice.

A greater magical sacred grove has 2d4 lesser grove powers (rolled on Table 3) and 1d4 greater grove powers (rolled on Table 4). Descriptions of the greater powers follow.

Table 4: Greater Grove Powers

    d12 Power:
  1. Awakened tree
  2. Beast speech
  3. Concealment
  4. Earthpower
  5. Know alignment
  6. Peaceful
  7. Reincarnation
  8. Waters of life
  9. Scrying pool
  10. Magic fruit
  11. Forbiddance
  12. Special

Awakened Tree. A large, ancient tree living in the grove gains Intelligence and Wisdom (2d6+6), the spellcasting ability of a 3rd-level druid, and the power of speech. It can use any two of its branches at once like arms. It speaks--in a deep, slow voice--in the secret language of the druids. In combat, treat it as a treant created by the liveoak spell. Roots bind it to the earth like a normal tree.

Know Alignment. A druid may know the alignment of others in the sacred grove by concentrating one round. (The druid and subject must remain in the grove during this time.) This spell-like power can be used any number of times. Nonpriest worshipers of Nature can use this power after two rounds of concentration (and two successful Wisdom checks), but can make only one attempt.

Peaceful. Anyone entering this grove may notice odd sights, like predators and prey playing together. Those who make a successful attack against another within this grove must make a saving throw vs. wands. Attackers who fail suffer all the damage themselves; the wounds they meant to inflict appear on their own bodies. If they save, they suffer only half damage.

Reincarnation. If a druid's ashes or remains are buried in the sacred grove, the character becomes reincarnated (per the priest spell). The new incarnation appears within a mile of the grove in 1d6 days.
